Entrance to Sea River Tower at the Holiday Inn
Come along with us on the magical journey that begins the moment your plane touches down at the airport in Puerto Vallarta. When the doors open, you smell the unique Vallarta air and the sun warms your body and soul. Let's walk through the process that takes you to your condo, your "home away from home." Be prepared for a part of your heart from now on to call Vallarta "home."
BIENVENIDOS!

If you are flying from outside of Mexico, and this is your first stop in the country, you will need to clear Immigration in order to step out into the sunshine of your vacation. You will go show your passport and any other ID (such as a Visa), pick up your bags at the carousel, and press a large button that either flashes GREEN ("Pase" or GO) or RED ("Alto" or STOP). Cross your fingers. If you get Green, everyone in your party is free to begin your vacation. If you get Red, there is a manual search of your baggage. Then you are on your way!
As you walk through the terminal to the exit, you may be accosted by people asking where you are staying, if they can provide transportation, etc. Beware! You have encountered the first of many timeshare sales people in Vallarta. They are "gophers" trying to find qualified leads for timeshare presentations in exchange for a payment to them. Smile, be pleasant (it is the Mexican way!), but keep moving. Do what you have to do. "I'm staying with friends." "I live here." "No, thanks." Whatever works.
At the exit doors, you WILL want to get a taxi. Someone asks you where you are going and, based on how many people are in your group, gives you a price and has you pay (you are given a receipt). The fare is always higher from the airport than it is back TO the airport from the condo. Special airport excise fees. (Once you really, really know your way around Vallarta, you might want to go out of the terminal and cross the road and hail a taxi, but rather than save a few bucks, the convenience might be well worth just getting a taxi from the airport.) People will hurry to take your bags and put them in the taxi and get you comfortable and on your way. You give the driver your receipt, and tell him you are going to THE HOLIDAY INN. There is only one in town, they know where it is, and you are on your way!
TIPS are always appropriate in Vallarta. The wages are very low, and workers generally go out of their way to be of service and friendly, so tip generously! At home, we tip 20%. Is there any reason to be less generous with these people who welcome us? When you arrive at the Holiday Inn, the driver must pass through the security gate. Tell him the number of the condo into which you are checking in. VERY VALLARTA always provides you with this information, in writing. When you arrive at the entrance, the Bell Boys will rush to open the cab door and help you with your bags. They will hold them for you while you check in, and then bring them to your condo. TIP them; they are your very helpful friends. $1.00 per bag is appropriate. WELCOME TO SEA RIVER TOWER!
